The face of this pillow features a heavy knit off-white cotton fabric with a vintage huipil from Chichicastenango, Guatemala. Each pillow will have a variation of the pattern photographed. A huipil is a traditional top worn by Mya women. Each Huipil has a pattern that is indigenous to the woman's village. These garments can take anywhere from 3-6 months to produce and are handwoven on a backstrap loom. We have combined these stunning weavings with more traditional fabrics to create one of a kind pillows for the modern home. The tassels are an added bonus! These organically dyed tassels were handmade by artisans in Pana, Guatemala.
When we went to Guatemala to source new textiles, we had no idea just how much we would fall in love with the people, the culture, the artisans, and their crafts. We were moved by their beautiful spirits, craftsmanship and, unfortunately, the poverty. We were instantly drawn to help the children of these artists obtain a better education where they will be able to help end the cycle of poverty. A portion of all of our sales will go directly towards scholarships for the children of the artists. Your purchase will uplift and support humanity in a unique and meaningful way!
We combine ethically sourced vintage and global textiles with fabrics from a locally owned small business to create each one-of-a-kind pillow. We take pride in the opportunity to give back to our local economy & to support other women in business by providing a fair wage to workrooms as well as supporting other small domestic and international businesses through our sourcing.
Because these pillows are made by hand using vintage materials, each may have a slight variation in color, size, and pattern. Minor signs of fading, discoloration or other imperfections are not considered flaws but add to the authenticity and charm of these beautiful home goods.
